Internet connectivity in Indian schools has improved significantly, with 67.4% of schools reporting internet access during 2025-26, up from 63.5% in the previous academic year. However, the latest UDISE+ data shows that nearly one-third of schools still lack connectivity. Computer availability has also increased, with 69.9% of schools now having computer facilities, compared with 64.7% in 2024-25. The improvement highlights India’s continuing shift towards technology-enabled education. Despite this progress, the connectivity gap remains a major challenge, particularly for schools serving students who depend on public education and digital resources. Limited internet access can affect online learning, digital classrooms and access to educational content. The UDISE+ figures underline the need to strengthen digital infrastructure and ensure that technology-enabled education reaches schools across India rather than remaining concentrated in better-connected areas.
