Content creation degree in India is emerging as a potential new academic pathway as the creator economy grows. The debate has gained attention after Arizona State University launched a bachelor’s degree in content creation covering areas such as studio production, podcasting and on-camera skills. Experts say Indian colleges could develop programmes covering video production, editing, storytelling, social media strategy, audience analytics, branding and content monetisation. Such courses could prepare students for careers as creators, podcasters, digital producers, content strategists and social media professionals. However, a degree cannot guarantee followers, virality or influencer success. Personality, originality and audience connection remain important. Experts suggest that Indian universities could combine existing subjects such as mass communication, journalism, advertising and digital marketing into specialised creator-economy programmes. Practical projects, portfolio building, industry exposure and understanding of AI, algorithms and monetisation could form key parts of such courses.
