N Chandrasekaran Education Journey: From Govt School to Tata

N Chandrasekaran education journey from government school to Tata Sons

N Chandrasekaran education journey began at a Tamil-medium government school in Mohanur village, Tamil Nadu, where he reportedly walked more than three kilometres to attend classes. Born into a farming family in Namakkal district, his early education was far removed from the corporate world he would later lead. He went on to study Applied Sciences and later completed a Master of Computer Applications (MCA). In 1987, he joined Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), beginning a career that eventually took him to the top of the Tata Group. Chandrasekaran became TCS chief executive in 2009 and was appointed as Chairman of Tata Sons in 2017. His rise from a rural government-school background to one of India’s most prominent corporate leadership positions highlights the role education and sustained professional growth can play in shaping a career. Recently N Chandrasekaran has decided to step down as chairman of Tata Sons, ending his nearly decade-long tenure at the helm of the Tata Group.
