Karnataka AI education will begin from Class 6 across the state, alongside plans for Karnataka’s first public AI University in Bengaluru, Chief Minister D K Shivakumar announced on August 15, 2026. Karnataka’s AI education is set for major expansion, with the state government announcing plans to introduce AI education in schools from Class 6 onwards. The initiative is aimed at preparing students for future careers and developing digital skills at an early stage. The government will launch AI Akshara Abhiyana and Coding Gurukul, with free special classes planned to help students learn AI and coding. The state will also establish its first public AI University in Bengaluru, while AI certificate courses are expected to begin by January 2027. AI Hubs will also be created across Karnataka to expand access to training and innovation. As part of the wider education push, 1,000 government schools will be upgraded into Karnataka Public Schools over the next two years. These schools are expected to offer digital classrooms, bilingual education, vocational learning and improved infrastructure. The announcements could significantly expand opportunities for students to gain AI and technology skills before entering higher education and the workforce.
