University Townships 2026: Government Seeks Public Ideas

University Townships 2026 planned near industrial and logistics corridors

University Townships 2026 will focus on creating integrated academic hubs where universities, colleges, research institutions, skill centres and residential facilities can operate together. The initiative was announced in the Union Budget 2026-27, with the government proposing five townships near major industrial and logistics corridors. The Ministry of Education has now invited students, parents, teachers, academicians, innovators and citizens to share their ideas through a nationwide public consultation. The consultation began on July 10 and will remain open until August 20.The proposed townships are intended to strengthen connections between higher education, industry, research and skill development. The government is seeking suggestions on the aspirations and priorities that should shape the initiative. The locations will be developed through a challenge-based approach involving states. The initiative could create new opportunities for students through stronger industry exposure, research collaboration and skill development.
