NCERT vacant posts have emerged as a major concern after a parliamentary panel highlighted significant staff shortages at two key national education bodies. NCERT currently has 1,596 vacant positions, representing more than half of its sanctioned posts. CBSE also has 933 unfilled positions, accounting for 44% of its sanctioned strength. The staff shortage comes as CBSE continues to handle a growing number of students and affiliated schools. The vacancies could affect the capacity of these institutions to manage their expanding responsibilities efficiently. The parliamentary panel has highlighted the need for adequate staffing at both organisations. NCERT plays a central role in curriculum development, educational research and textbook preparation, while CBSE oversees school affiliation, examinations and academic standards. The findings highlight the importance of filling vacant positions to strengthen the functioning of India’s school education system.
