AI Adoption in India 2026 has reached a significant level, with 94% of learners surveyed saying they use artificial intelligence in some form. However, the growing use of AI is not being matched by structured learning, according to upGrad’s Skill Shift: Annual Report on India’s AI Skilling. The report, based on responses from around 2,100 learners across India, found that 56% consider knowing where to start is the biggest barrier to learning AI. Another 43% said the large number of courses and uncertainty over their credibility makes choosing a learning path difficult. At the same time, 87% of respondents said they are already enrolled in, exploring or planning to pursue AI upskilling. About 54% reported a career benefit linked to AI, including greater workplace confidence, a new role, promotion or freelance income. The findings highlight a growing gap between using AI tools and developing advanced AI skills, making structured job-oriented AI learning increasingly important for students and professionals.
