SAMARTH Semiconductor Hub: IIT Gandhinagar to Train 10,000+

SAMARTH Semiconductor Hub at IIT Gandhinagar for semiconductor research and training

SAMARTH Semiconductor Hub at IIT Gandhinagar is being developed as a major research and training center to strengthen India’s semiconductor workforce. The ₹190-crore initiative is supported by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, the Gujarat government, and IIT Gandhinagar. The hub will focus on semiconductor manufacturing, research, practical training, faculty development, and industry collaboration. Its infrastructure will include a 1,200-square-meter cleanroom and around 40 process and characterization tools. Over the next five years, SAMARTH aims to train more than 10,000 students and technicians and upskill over 1,000 industry professionals. The program is expected to provide learners with hands-on exposure to semiconductor technologies and manufacturing processes. The initiative could create new opportunities for engineering students and professionals seeking careers in chip design, fabrication, semiconductor research, and advanced electronics.
