Karnataka Agriculture Officer Recruitment: Why Engineers Face Opposition

Karnataka Agriculture Officer Recruitment eligibility controversy

Karnataka Agriculture Officer Recruitment has sparked a debate over whether engineering graduates should be eligible for specialised agriculture posts. The Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) had allowed BE and BTech graduates to apply for Agriculture Officer (AO) and Assistant Agriculture Officer (AAO) positions, prompting protests from agriculture students. The examinations, scheduled for August 8 and 9, were temporarily postponed following protests by students from the University of Agricultural Sciences, Bengaluru. The revised examination dates and eligibility rules had not been confirmed at the time of the report. Education experts argued that agriculture posts require specialised knowledge gained through agriculture education. They said allowing candidates from unrelated disciplines could increase competition for agriculture graduates and dilute the importance of specialised degrees. The controversy has renewed discussion about degree-specific eligibility, employment opportunities and specialised education in Karnataka.
