A Water-Cleaning Robot developed by five engineering students in Jharkhand is turning a college project into a practical environmental solution. The final-year BTech students of Dumka Engineering College have built an autonomous machine designed to remove floating waste from water bodies. The robot is set to be deployed at the Shiv Ganga pond at Basukinath Dham during the Shravani Mela. Its deployment demonstrates how student engineering projects can be adapted to address real-world environmental challenges. The autonomous system is designed to collect floating garbage, potentially reducing the need for manual cleaning in difficult water environments. The project also highlights the growing role of hands-on engineering education in developing practical technologies. Such student-led innovations can encourage young engineers to work on issues involving waste management, water conservation and public sanitation. The project offers an example of how academic institutions can connect technical learning with community needs and environmental sustainability.
