Deepak Dhar Dirac Medal recognition marks another major milestone in the career of the renowned Indian theoretical physicist. Dhar has been awarded the 2026 Dirac Medal by the International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) for his important contributions to statistical mechanics. He is among four physicists selected for this year’s honour. The Dirac Medal recognises outstanding contributions to theoretical physics and mathematics. Dhar’s research has significantly advanced understanding of complex physical systems and statistical mechanics, a field that also has applications in areas such as artificial intelligence and complex networks. Dhar studied at Allahabad University and IIT Kanpur before earning his PhD from Caltech, where he worked closely with Nobel laureate Richard Feynman. He later returned to India and contributed extensively to theoretical physics. The Deepak Dhar Dirac Medal adds to his list of major honours, including the 2022 Boltzmann Medal and the 2023 Padma Bhushan.
