UGC Fake Universities 2026 have been identified by the University Grants Commission, which has urged students to verify institutions before taking admission. The University Grants Commission (UGC) has renewed its warning to students after identifying 32 fake universities operating across different states in India. These institutions are not authorised to award valid degrees under the UGC Act, making their certificates invalid for higher education and employment. The Commission has also cautioned students against misleading advertisements, unauthorised EdTech collaborations, and franchise-based programmes that falsely claim government recognition or guaranteed placements. Before applying for any course, students and parents are advised to verify whether the institution is recognised by the UGC or the relevant statutory body. The UGC’s Anti-Malpractice Cell continues to monitor complaints against such institutions and has appealed to the public to report suspicious educational organisations. This advisory aims to protect students from academic fraud and ensure they pursue recognised qualifications.
