Karnataka CBSE Schools Career Counsellors are still missing in many affiliated institutions despite the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) making their appointment mandatory. Under the revised affiliation by-laws, every CBSE school must appoint dedicated career counsellors and counselling & wellness teachers, maintaining a ratio of one counsellor for every 500 students in Classes 9 to 12. However, more than 1,300 CBSE schools in Karnataka are reportedly struggling to implement the directive due to a shortage of qualified professionals and recruitment challenges. School managements have sought additional time and greater flexibility to meet the new norms. Education experts believe career counselling is essential for helping students make informed academic and career choices while supporting their overall well-being and mental health.
