Maharashtra MBBS Service Bond has been abolished, making the state the first in India to remove the compulsory one-year service requirement. The Maharashtra government has removed the mandatory one-year service bond for MBBS graduates, becoming the first state in India to take this step. The decision is expected to provide greater career flexibility for medical graduates pursuing higher studies, private practice, or employment opportunities. Previously, graduates had to serve in government healthcare institutions or pay a penalty for non-compliance. Medical students have welcomed the move, saying it reduces career uncertainty and allows better planning for postgraduate education. The government believes the decision will modernize medical education policies while exploring alternative methods to strengthen healthcare services in rural and underserved regions.
