The Global Lunar Satellite Mission has opened the doors of space exploration for 14-year-old Kandula Jessie, a Class 10 student from a government school in Andhra Pradesh. The daughter of a carpenter, Jessie has been selected as one of India’s 20 participants for Mission ShakthiSAT, the world’s first global all-girls lunar CubeSat mission. She was chosen from nearly 12,000 applicants representing 108 countries after successfully completing multiple rounds of online learning, interviews, and project evaluations. Jessie, a student of Zilla Parishad Girls High School in Dhavaleswaram, balanced her Class 10 studies while completing advanced space technology modules. She will undergo practical training in New Delhi before participating in the student-built lunar CubeSat mission, scheduled for launch from Sriharikota, inspiring countless young girls to pursue STEM careers.
