STEM Enrolment in India has crossed the one-crore mark for the first time, with women’s participation increasing to 44%, according to the latest government report based on the All India Survey on Higher Education (AISHE). The report highlights steady growth in enrolment across Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines, reflecting India’s expanding higher education ecosystem. Science alone accounts for over 55.5 lakh students, with women making up 54.6% of enrolments across undergraduate, postgraduate, integrated, MPhil, and PhD programmes. The findings indicate a narrowing gender gap in STEM education and demonstrate growing interest among students in technology and science-related careers. Experts believe the trend will strengthen India’s innovation ecosystem, research capabilities, and skilled workforce.
