Rhygen Hybrid Powertrain: IIT Bombay Startup Boosts Tata Ace Energy Efficiency

Rhygen Hybrid Powertrain: IIT Bombay Startup Boosts Tata Ace Energy Efficiency. The startup began as an idea discussed by its founders in an IIT Bombay hostel room. Today, it develops energy management systems that help save energy and improve efficiency. The founders say their mission has remained the same from the beginning—to make the use of energy more efficient wherever it is produced, transmitted, or used.Rhygen Hybrid Powertrain is an innovative hybrid electric technology developed by an IIT Bombay startup to improve the fuel efficiency of light commercial vehicles. The startup has successfully integrated its series hybrid powertrain into a Tata Ace Gold, enabling the engine to operate at its most efficient level while an electric motor powers the wheels. According to the developers, the system improves average energy efficiency to 27–30%, compared with 15–20% in conventional internal combustion engine vehicles. The hybrid architecture is expected to deliver significantly better mileage, lower fuel consumption, and reduced emissions, making it suitable for urban logistics and last-mile delivery. The innovation highlights India’s growing focus on sustainable mobility and energy-efficient transportation solutions.
