India’s Semiconductor Revolution: Three New Chip Plants Boost Manufacturing Growth

Semiconductor manufacturing plant supporting India's chip production mission

India’s Semiconductor Revolution has reached a major milestone with the launch of three semiconductor packaging plants within six months, strengthening the country’s ambition to become a global chip manufacturing hub. The latest facility at Sanand, Gujarat, marks the third operational semiconductor plant under the India Semiconductor Mission. The government expects five semiconductor plants to be operational by the end of 2026, creating jobs, attracting global investments, and reducing import dependence. With continued policy support and upcoming Semicon 2.0 incentives, India is expanding its semiconductor ecosystem beyond chip fabrication to include design, packaging, testing, and research. This rapid progress is expected to enhance India’s role in the global electronics supply chain and support long-term technological growth.
