The High Court has directed the Karnataka Department of School Education and Literacy (DSEL) to cancel the recruitment process for 480 OBC female Graduate Primary Teacher (GPT) posts. The problem was created during the recruitment of 15,000 graduate primary teachers in 2022-23 when married OBC women were asked to submit the caste and income certificates of their husbands instead of their fathers. The counselling of 480 candidates was stopped and they approached the court against the decision. Later, the Karnataka State Administrative Tribunal (KSAT) rule was in their favour and a final selection list was announced. But after the High Court received fresh petitions, the department put a stay on the recruitment and appointments till further orders of the court.
