Karnataka’s Education Department is planning to introduce AI for evaluating descriptive exam papers in government schools. The new system aims to reduce the workload of teachers and speed up the correction process for classes 8 to 12. Developed with support from IIT Dharwad, the technology can scan answer sheets, identify marks, and help teachers prepare reports more accurately. Officials say AI will support teachers instead of replacing them, allowing them to focus more on student learning and guidance. Trial runs are being conducted on SSLC answer sheets. If it is successful, then the system could evaluate nearly 1.5 million answer sheets quickly and efficiently across the state.
