The Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) will be setting up 20 new medical colleges in various parts of India in the next two years to enhance affordable healthcare and medical education. This expansion is expected to benefit nearly 3.72 crore insured workers and their families. The first phase of colleges will be located in cities like Pune, Manesar, Kollam, Surat, Vishakhapatnam, Nagpur, and Margaon. Each college will have 50 MBBS seats and a 200-bed hospital. Around 40 percent of seats will be reserved for children of insured employees. The initiative is expected to improve healthcare services, access to quality treatment, and increase in medical seat capacity, particularly in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities.
